Texture of Being

In this narrative video Lizzie gathers, processes, and reflects on a trip to Croatia with her family, and the personal history that comes with it. She weaves footage from 1990 and 2025, both taken in the same apartment in Zagreb, Croatia. Her papermaking punctuates her experience into three parts: Gather, Pulp, and Shape. She documents herself making paper before finding footage of her brothers doing the same in 1992. The difference of 30+ years is further emphasized by recording her film on a VHS played on a TV/VCR combination. Explorations of the physicality of her work are an important throughline in her practice with no exception to this film. It is a story of family, home, making and memory.
